Syosset Theater Arts Presents:
I Never Saw Another Butterfly
This play is based on the poems written by children in the Terezin Concentration Camp during the Holocaust. Perhaps the most famous poem is "I Never Saw Another Butterfly".
The students of the Syosset High School Theater group shared the following: The reasons we chose the play I Never Saw Another Butterfly was to bring awareness to the atrocities of the Holocaust. We feel the need to show the world that the events that this show was based on, cannot be allowed to happen again.
This show is very meaningful to our cast and crew. The unprecedented hateful, derogatory and anti-Semitic words, phrases, and symbols that were painted on walls and windows of our school this past August, left many members of our community feeling attacked, personally offended, and insecure.
The idea of sharing the stories of the children of the Holocaust is our way of bringing awareness to the lasting reminders of the devastating, horrible events of our past that continue to be prevalent in our society today.
Makom NY is proud to support this play. Not only do we have many students from our community performing in the play, and not only do we have many families directly impacted by the Holocaust, but we also recognize the importance to 'Never Forget'.
Makom NY will be attending the play as a group on Saturday, November 18th, for a 7:30 PM show. Those who are able to join us for dinner, we will gather at Rachel's Cafe in Syosset (57 Berry Hill Road, Syosset) at 5:30 PM, and then make our way over to the play.
Dinner will be pay your own way, and the play is $7 per person. Tickets can be bought at the door.
Please RSVP to the side if you are planning to attend, so we can have enough seats at the dinner, and save seats at the play.
If you are not able to attend the play on Saturday, they are also performing on Thursday, November 16th at 7:00 PM and Friday, November 17th at 7:30 PM.
