Movie Night: Inheritance
SPECIAL SCREENING IN RECOGNITION OF YOM HASHOAH:
SUNDAY, MAY 5th at 5:00PM at Bethpage Worship Center
‘Inheritance’ is the story of Monika Hertwig, a soft-spoken woman struggling with a profound legacy left by a father she never knew. Monika’s father was Amon Goeth, a Nazi leader and commandant of the Plaszow concentration camp in Poland; he was portrayed by Ralph Fiennes in the movie ‘Schindler’s List’. Often described as a “monster” and “inhuman”, Goeth oversaw the murder of tens of thousands of Jews during the war, and himself murdered hundreds of Jews and other prisoners of war.
Feeling the need to come to terms with this legacy of hatred, Monika reaches out to Helen Jonas, a young girl who lived enslaved in Goeth’s home, as both his maid and his prey for nearly two years. Sixty years after the war, Monika and Helen meet for the first time at what was once Goeth’s luxurious villa overlooking the camp.
‘Inheritance’ is a brutally honest and emotional journey
that brings both closure and new questions.
Makom friend Vivian Delman, the daughter of Helen Jonas,
will join us for this special evening.
