HIGH HOLY DAYS 2024/5785
Welcome to the High Holy Days at MakomNY.Celebrate the joy and holiness of Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur with us.
The MakomNY community welcomes those from all backgrounds to share the High Holy Days with us. We have intentionally created a place to help meet the emerging and changing needs of our diverse Jewish community. The High Holy Day Experience at MakomNY includes services, adult learning, quiet reflection, thoughtful discussion and spiritual flourishing, special family activities, mitzvah projects and more. Our High Holy Day Services include Hebrew prayers with transliteration as well as beautiful spiritual readings, meditations and insights in English. It is important to us that all are able to follow and participate in the way they find comfortable and fulfilling. All services and programs (unless otherwise noted) will be held in-person at the Bethpage Worship Center, 600 Broadway, Bethpage. This year, everything is different. We have struggled as a Jewish community to make sense of the horrific events of October 7th. We are feeling angry, sad, frustrated and lost. As a community and as individuals, we are more connected to Israel and our Jewish identity than perhaps ever before. We have learned to fight the antisemitism in our own community, and we have found our voices and used them for good. This year, we want to focus our Yom Kippur Mitzvah Project around mitzvot that enhance our Jewish identity AND support our brothers and sisters in Israel. We will be engaging in projects for our personal Mitzvah journey, as well as supporting Israel, our soldiers, our hostage families and more. Details are found on our High Holy Day Reservation Form. RUDMAN FOOD PANTRY - COLLECTIONS
As in years past, we continue to support the Rudman Family Food Pantry at the Mid-Island Y-JCC. There will be bags available on Rosh Hashanah, and we ask that you bring them back on Yom Kippur filled with your donations. As a different model for Jewish community, one that does not have a traditional dues or membership model, we rely on the support of our participants to offer the high-quality programming and services that you expect from MakomNY. All of those who choose to support MakomNY with a minimum monthly donation as part of our 'Shorashim Donation Program' are able to attend High Holy Day Services at No Additional Fee. WE ENCOURAGE YOU TO ENROLL NOW IN OUR MONTHLY SHORASHIM DONATION PROGRAM, AND WE WILL SEND YOU A SEPARATE LINK TO MAKE YOUR HIGH HOLY DAY RESERVATION (AT NO ADDITIONAL FEE). CLICK HERE FOR MORE INFORMATION ON THE MONTHLY SHORASHIM PROGRAM. Please know, If you are not able to become one of our Shorashim donors at this time, and solely want to reserve your space for the MakomNY High Holy Day Services and Programs, we would love to have you.
