Teen Moadon Program 2024-2025

MakomNY offers multiple ways for our teens to engage with our staff, recent Makom college graduates, community leaders, and one another in new and meaningful ways.  We offer a wide variety of ways for teens to engage Jewishly and in the greater community. We are also collaborating with local Jewish communities so that we can all enhance and strengthen our teen programs. 

Makom Teen Programs Include:

• Monthly Mitzvah Projects
  Tuesday evenings from 6:30-8:00pm
  Rabbi Bravo's Home
  Baking cupcakes for Birthday Wishes of Long Island.
  Must register in advance - limited space.
  Dinner will be served!
  
  
• Monthly Pizza & Dialogue Nights
  Tuesday evenings from 6:30-8:00pm
  Bethpage Worship Center
  All are welcome - conversations about 'all things Jewish Teen'.
  
  
• Social Opportunities and Fun
  Monthly gatherings (mainly on weekends) 
  Times and Dates To Be Determined by TEENS
  Must RSVP - additional fees for off-site programs do apply.

Teen Advisory Leadership Council

New this year, we have formed an amazing group of 8th-12th grade teens who will serve in a leadership capacity. They will help to create programs, facilitate conversations, organize activities and learn basic leadership skills. This is a great opportunity for resume building and college applications!

Our Teen Council will include:

• Chairpeople - leaders of our Teen programs
• Vice Presidents of Education, Ritual, Social and Networking
• Representatives for 8th, 9th, 10th and 11th Grades
• Senior Representatives (to create special programming for 12th graders)

Madrichim Program

Madrichim is a Teaching Assistant program for post-Bar and Bat Mitzvah students (8th-12 graders) to work and engage with our younger Moadon students. This takes place on Tuesdays and Wednesdays during our Moadon Hebrew School. Not only will teens learn to work with younger children, but they will also learn basic skills in discussion group leading, facilitation of lessons, one-on-one Hebrew teaching, role modeling and much more.

Director of Teen Programs

We are so excited to welcome BARRIE DRATCH to our growing Makom team as our Director or Teen Programs. Barrie has worked as part of the Makom team for the past 2 years as our Moadon Administrator and our general Makom Administrator. This year, Barrie is serving both as our Director of Teen Programs and our Assistant Director of Moadon. 

Barrie worked for many years as a public school teacher, and continues to work as the Head Counselor for the Girls' Side at Camp Starlight. 

Our Teens will LOVE getting to know Barrie - to meet for coffee, icecream, or just to plan programs.
