TEEN TRIPS
CO-SPONSORED BY: MAKOM NY, TEMPLE CHAVERIM, MID-ISLAND Y JCC
TEEN TRAVEL are opportunities for our teens to travel out of the Long Island area with peers and chaperones, in order to experience 'Jewish', history, culture, community and life.
Over the course of this calendar year, Teen Travel presents a Southern Civil Rights Trip for 9th-12th graders and a special Jewish Fun Philly Trip for 8th and 9th graders. CIVIL RIGHTS TRIP
FOR 9th-12th GRADE STUDENTS Students will fly to Atlanta on Thursday afternoon with Rabbi Bravo and at least one other chaperone. We will stay in hotels in Georgia and Alabama and we will travel on the same coach bus for the entire weekend. The program is organized and run by ETGAR, an independent, pluralistic, nonpartisan, and nonprofit Jewish educational venture. The Civil Rights Journey will empower and inspire our students to make a difference. They will meet with primary sources: Reverends who worked and strategized with Dr. King, as well as people who participated in the march from Selma to Montgomery. We will also discuss Jewish involvement in the Movement and how our Passover story correlates so strongly with the Civil Rights story. By visiting the Equal Justice Initiative and Fair Fight 2020 we will help our teens to understand that the fight for Civil Rights wasn’t restricted to the 1950’s and 60’s, but that it continues today. In addition to being an invaluable learning experience for your teen, this trip will be a great addition to your child’s resume and college applications, and may even become the subject for their college essay! Total cost for the trip is $850, with special thanks to a grant from the Leader Foundation. General Itinerary for Civil Rights Journey can be found HERE. |
