OUR RABBI

RABBI DEBORAH BRAVO

Rabbi Deborah Bravo
"On my journey, I have made connections with thousands of people, and each has made me a better Rabbi, and more importantly a better person. My fervent hope and vision for the future is for MakomNY to  forever grow and evolve as a community that attracts engagement in Jewish life, and embraces each person who may not otherwise feel part of a Jewish community. We are here to meet people where they are on their individual journey with Judaism. We do so by helping each person to flourish, and by making Judaism the vehicle for flourishing. I cherish serving the community, and find great joy in building relationships each day within our community - with children, teens and adults. I love that so many have found a place, a Makom, here. I hope you will get to know us." Deborah Bravo

OUR MODEL

"Our ROOTS are our history, deeply planted in tradition.
Like a tree, the roots are bare, showing what we have in common.
We share the same past; we remain strong because our roots are strong."
MakomNY Brings a Refreshing New Model to Jewish Community.
We are an inclusive, welcoming 'place',offering meaningful experiences, relevant to the world today, respectful of all backgrounds and traditions.  Rabbi Bravo and the MakomNY leadership team are committed to offering the highest quality programming, opportunities for deep learning, spiritual connection, beautiful worship, and engagement for all ages, as well as social justice, cultural, travel and social experiences. Our MODEL creates a community without borders where you can put down ROOTS and find a sense of belonging, whether you come from a traditional or liberal background.
"We are here to ensure a strong Jewish world for today and for generations to come.
We are here to enable each person to flourish and grow as an individual,
with Judaism as the vehicle for that flourishing."
Rabbi Bravo
How Our Model Works
Through our model we bring the Long Island community new and inspiring ways to experience Judaism, with NO mandatory membership dues OR building fund. You will find Educational Programs (children + teens), Bar + Bat Mitzvah Experiences, High Holy Days, Passover Seders + Holiday Meals, Adult Learning Opportunities, Lifecycle Events, etc.

"We exist today and can only thrive, and deliver high-level programming with your ongoing voluntary contributions. How wonderful it is, and what pride you should take knowing you are giving towards the future, and building a promising Jewish foundation for today and for generations to come." Rabbi Bravo
Planting Roots and Branching Out: The 'Shorashim Donation Program'
We created our Shorashim Donation Program, literally meaning 'Putting Down Roots', as a way for individuals, couples and families to simply make easy automatic monthly donations to the community (or annual if preferred). We welcome your participation and engagement in MakomNY,
and hope you will call on us to share in your lives.

Those who engage in the Shorashim Donation Program may attend all MakomNY programs and activities at no additional per program donation, including High Holy Day Services, as well as family, social, cultural and learning events.
*only exceptions are catered dinners, Seders, mitzvah projects, day trips, etc.

"As my ancestors planted for me, so too I plant for my children and my children's children." ~ Talmud Taanit 23a
